Who is Bahama Stars for?

A creative, welcoming space for adults who want to try theatre, overcome shyness, build confidence, meet new people and become part of a community. No previous acting experience is required – just curiosity, openness and a willingness to create together.

The programme combines theatre training with soft-skills development. Through improvisation and theatre exercises, participants develop creativity, communication, active listening, collaboration, confidence and the ability to think and react spontaneously. We also work with breath and voice, helping participants become more aware of how they communicate and present themselves.

A key part of the programme is building a group and creating meaningful connections. Theatre provides a unique way of meeting people and getting to know one another beyond everyday small talk. Working creatively with people from different backgrounds also creates an opportunity to discover different cultures, perspectives and ways of communicating. By creating together, participants learn to listen to and understand each other, appreciate differences and find common ground. The international nature of the group becomes an important part of the creative process itself.

Programme

Term 1 – Improvisation
The first term focuses on improvisation and getting to know the group. Participants learn to trust themselves and others, react spontaneously, listen, take creative risks and step outside their comfort zone. The exercises help break the ice, build confidence and create a strong sense of connection within the group.

Term 2 – Working with the Camera
The second term focuses on acting and communicating in front of the camera. Participants explore natural presence, body language, voice, self-presentation and working with a scene partner. The term concludes with a screening/presentation of the work created by the group.

Term 3 – Theatre
The final term is dedicated to creating a theatre performance together. Participants develop characters, scenes and the overall performance, learning how to work as an ensemble and take responsibility for a shared artistic result. The term culminates in a public performance.

Throughout the programme, the emphasis is not only on the artistic outcome, but on the experience of creating something together. It is a chance to meet people outside of work, make friends, practice English in a relaxed environment, exchange cultural perspectives and become part of an international theatre community.

At the end of the programme, all participants receive a certificate of participation recognising their work and completion of the course.
